NCWPP  Professional Development Series

The NCWPP_brochure (NCWPP) is a collaborative effort between the Department of Public Instruction and the North Carolina sites of the National Writing Project: University of North Carolina at Charlotte, NC State University (Capital Area Writing Project), and East Carolina University (Tar River Writing Project). Through this initiative, NCWPP seeks to improve student achievement in North Carolina schools by providing powerful learning opportunities for local educators.

Goals of the NC Writing Project Partnership

1. To improve student writing and learning in K-16 classrooms

2. To extend the uses of writing in all disciplines

3. To offer the highest quality faculty development in the teaching of writing to NC teachers.

Recognizing the importance of teacher expertise, inquiry, and leadership, NCWPP offers professional development programs for teachers that create opportunities for meaningful learning based on research, shared practice and continuous reflection on our teaching. Our professional development model engages educators in the learning process and empowers them with current research and teaching strategies they can implement immediately in their classrooms. It also strives to build a collegial environment where teachers become expert learners and share their expertise with one another and their students.

As affiliates of the National Writing Project, NCWPP sites are authorized under NCLB, Title II, Part C as providers of professional development for teachers and administrators.
